Sight translation

Sight translation techniques are applied when translation is performed outside of CAT tools.

Sight translation may be required for the following document types:

• handwritten texts;
• poorly printed or scanned documents;
• photos of product labels;
• documents in languages with no optical recognition tools available, such as Bengali or German written in the Gothic font.

The translator looks at the source page and translates it into another document, simultaneously typing and formatting the text as they go along. In these cases, cross-file repetitions cannot be discounted.
